Nova Scotia

Canada’s wild east coast
With 13,300 kilometres of coastline, Nova Scotia is a paradise for nature lovers. The province is located in eastern Canada and consists largely of the Nova Scotia Peninsula and the offshore Cape Breton Island, with bays and fishing villages lining the coastline. Edelweiss flies directly to Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia, from July to October.

The legendary Cabot Trail
One of the most beautiful panoramic roads in the world winds its way for 298 kilometres through the Highlands of Cape Breton National Park. The route impresses with spectacular coastal sections, dense forests and breathtaking views of the ocean. The Skyline Trail is particularly impressive and, with a bit of luck, you may even spot moose. Another highlight is the Uisge Bàn Falls Provincial Park on Cape Breton Island, nestled in a fairytale landscape with lots of greenery and waterfalls.

Charming villages and maritime culture
The UNESCO-protected town of Lunenburg with its colourful wooden houses is a jewel of the south coast. As one of the oldest German settlements in Canada, it reflects the region’s long fishing and shipbuilding tradition. Not far away is Blue Rocks, a picturesque fishing village that exudes an almost surreal beauty with its blue slate cliffs and small boathouses. Also worth a visit is Peggy’s Cove with its famous lighthouse, which has been the province’s landmark since 1915.

Adventures in nature
Whether kayaking on the Eastern Shore, hiking in Cape Chignecto Provincial Park or a relaxing day at the beach – Nova Scotia offers countless outdoor experiences. Crescent Beach is particularly recommended: whether you’re a first-time visitor or a returning visitor, it’s easy to see why this place and the surrounding coastal landscape inspire the region’s many female artists. Equally impressive is the Bay of Fundy, where the highest tides in the world are up to 16 metres, creating fascinating rock formations such as the Three Sisters. A walk at low tide lets you experience the forces of nature up close.

Culinary highlights from the sea
Freshly caught seafood is at the top of the menu in Nova Scotia. Lobster and oysters in particular are a speciality here. The Halifax waterfront is home to numerous restaurants, pubs and cafés serving regional specialities: Bar Kismet, The Press Gang Restaurant and Oyster Bar and The Five Fishermen are known for their fish dishes. Lovers of Italian cuisine should stop off at The Bicycle Thief. In the Bay of Fundy, we recommend the Bessie North House or Wild Caraway and on Cape Breton, The Brixton is a popular address.

On Cape Breton, the Cabot Cape Breton Resort invites you to relax with world-class golf courses and impressive views. Trout Point Lodge – a luxurious wilderness resort – is also worth a visit.
